Q: How large is the actual opening? I am thinking to use this for cat litter disposal, and wonder what size scoop would be able to push open the flap to dump clumps into bag.

A: They came out with one for cats called the litter genie

As an alternative we do have a cat litter disposal system that was created specifically for cats. A: We have only tested the Diaper Genie pails for newborn diaper usage. The Diaper Genie Classic can hold up to 55 new born diapers.
