No additional tools were needed. I came with everything. Set up took us about 5 minutes. I am placing these on my front lawn so that we can watch the kids play in the yard.

I put them in my balcony and they are perfect chairs to enjoy the outside view. The assembly was quite easy and we were able to set it up within an hour for both chairs.
