Rain will drain through the spaces between the wood slats. And the sandbox is bottomless for further drainage.

A: It does not have a bottom. We put down weed barrier before the sand. It does get wet but dries out fast since it drains out. We always spray for bugs in and around it. We have had ours for two years now and it has been worth it. It's held up very well and it is my sons favorite thing to do when he's outside.

This sandbox is bottomless to allow you to adjust sand depth (if you want a deeper sandbox, you can excavate into the ground to make a deeper well for holding sand) and also to allow for drainage if there is a lot of rain. A: Thank you for your question. The wood is heat treated to around 100 degrees C and then a stain is applied. All our wood sandboxes are fully compliant with all applicable ASTM children's product safety standard for products of their type which includes testings on the surface coatings.
