Q: Can you install this in a window and still have the screen up? How far does it protrude through the window?

  • A: Please do not open the screen of the window when you using the item as it will affect the coolong effect. It doesn't matter that how far the exhaust hose protrude through the window, as long as the machine can absorb the hot air outside the window and convert to cold air

Terrible AC Unit

I got the unit. It says 8,000 btu. It does not cool at all like my small 5,000 btu. The small unit kept my space at 72 degrees. This garbage unit has it at 79 degrees and rising!! Customer service is useless in assisting me. I asked for troubleshooting and they said read the manual. I have multiple times! They also instructed me not to ask the manufacturer!!

Terrible customer service

Really difficult to get out of the box, especially since you aren’t supposed to tilt it. Directions are poor, telling you to “swirl” the exhaust hose onto the connectors, which readily pops off if you try to move the units. The instructions say to screw the connector to the window piece. No screws found in either box. I contact Costway because the instructions said to. Costway refused to answer and told me to contact Target, who knows nothing about it. Target told me to buy my own screws and gave me an obvious wrong size. Then they told me to bring the 40 pound units back to the store, even though I’m disabled and have no reason to believe other units would have screws either. Then they tell me to return the units, with the same problem of getting them to the store. I’ve set them up without the screws. They do cool, but are noisier than advertised. 65 db compared to 55 claimed (per an OSHA app). Buy a different brand.

Works for area about 200 square feet.

Got it for my small apartment for an additional help to lower temperature for the kitchen area. Does the job well. Easy to operate.
