Review Quotes
Gr 2-4-In this second space adventure in the "Cosmic Creatures" series, Charlie visits the planet Vela to visit her Aunt Leticia in Firecat Plains, named for the bright blue firecats that live there. Charlie and her family are observing the migration of the beautiful, cheetah-like creatures when they are suddenly spooked by a silver spaceship. The firecats stampede, causing an avalanche and damaging Charlie's ship. She and her robot companion must travel to the nearest town to get help. Along the way, they run into an injured baby firecat left behind, and a boy who is part of a group of exotic animal thieves. When Charlie and her companions are taken prisoner, she must find a way out and rescue the firecats that have been captured. All of the classic science fiction hallmarks are in place in this unique adventure tale introducing new planets and cute, exotic creatures. Sophy Williams's illustrations provide a compelling introduction to the robots and landscapes necessary for bringing the story to life.
