A Super Lens!
I've wanted to own a TS lens for a long time. When Canon came out with the new additions to their collection I decided to try one out. I borrowed the new 50mm macro through Canon CPS and fell in love with it. Unfortunately when it arrive I was busy and didn't have the time I would have liked to for testing, but I did find time to try in out on my model railroad I built in the basement. It turned me into a believer. This lens is sharp. I used my 5DSR and found out I could stop down to f24 before getting any noticeable diffraction. In this application I was using the tilt function to increase my depth of field and it worked beautifully. I did get out to use the shift to create high megapixel images for a project I was working on. I used a Hoodman to check the focus since it is manual, but generally found it easy to focus anyway. Zeroing out the tilt and shift gives you an excellent standard 50mm lens if you don't mind a little manual focus. 1 A friend questioned my sanity and suggested that software would do the same thing, but it doesn't. correcting perspective in software has its uses, but you loose pixels and I'm sure quality. Software will not increase the depth of field without focus stacking. All I had to do is run down to the basement, take one photograph, download it and I was done. Not a pixel lost. I love this lens. The 24 will be next!
