Black ink did not last long
Not sure what happened. Put in the new black ink cartridge, ran a few tests to clean out the ink nozzles and then the black ink cartridge was empty. It must have been a dud cartridge because I did not run over 500 copies before it was empty!

How dry I am.
Only printed 8 pages. Low on ink. It must dry out or something. This was over several months.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your feedback. At Brother, customer satisfaction is something we take seriously. One factor that will affect your color ink consumption is the cleaning cycle of the machine. The machine is designed to automatically flush and clean all of the ink jet nozzles on a programmed schedule. During the cleaning process, the machine draws out a small amount of ink to remove air bubbles from the cartridge and to remove dust and dried ink from the ink nozzles and channels. This not only ensures premium print quality but also ensures the life of the print head. Because of the ink jet technology, this process is common to all ink jet machines. If you have any questions about your Brother Genuine cartridge, please contact Brother customer service: https://www.brother-usa.com/brother-support

What has happened?
I have had my MFC-J885DW printer for several years and ALWAYS put genuine Brother ink in it. I just bought a batch of color ink, yellow, magenta, and cyan, ALL of them have just about run dry and I don't think I've printed more then 10 sheets. My original black is still good. What is going on? I paid top dollar for this!

We understand your Brother LC203BK cartridge did not last long. We'd like to help. The stated page yields for genuine Brother cartridges are based on the ISO testing standards. The number of pages that can be printed with a cartridge is affected by several factors, including paper size, number of pages per print job, amount of print on each page, font size, and print content (graphics, charts, etc.). Print jobs with large text fonts, graphics, charts, and/or large amount of solid coverage (black or any given color) will use much more ink and will shorten the life of the ink cartridge. You're in denial
Don't bother with a response. I won't be back to read it. I had a yellow cartridge and a black cartridge go empty yesterday WHILE I WAS AT LUNCH. The yellow one is an XL and was 80% full when I left for lunch and the black one, also an XL and it was 25% full when I left. The ink seems to evaporate.

Does not last
Brother, there are too many of these complaints to ignore. This ink just disappears shortly after I open and install a newly purchased cartridge. I don't ever get the yield that you claim, even within the first few weeks after the fresh installation. I've done cartridge cleaning after cartridge cleaning. I expect much better quality from Brother. Very unhappy with this product.

Why I don't like this supplier and printer
The problem appears to be that these cartridges just go bad. Sitting on a shelf in their original sealed packaging or installed in the printer, the ink just seems to vanish over time. I don't have a need to print daily or even weekly. I have used a number of printers and printer technologies over the years. My favorite is STILL the old clunky HP LaserJet 4000. Cartridges print as many pages as advertised or more. They stay fresh for (literally) years whether on the shelf or installed. This is just not true of this brother printer. I bought a 4pack of genuine ink and installed it. Before even one page was printed, two of the 4 inks showed less than half full. The other two began showing low after only a few pages of mixed text and graphics. I think the design is just bad and nothing will make it better short of delivering ultra short-lived and ultra low priced cartridges that you install before you print and then pull after a week of use. They just don't last for any amount of time. Time seems to be the limiting factor, not page count when it comes to this product. The ink-jet business model seems to be: 1) Loss lead the printer with low capacity carts. 2) Sell far over-priced replacements carts to make the money back. 3) Blame suppliers of off-brand papers and inks for poor quality results. OTOH, The printer does an outstanding job of producing printed output when the over-priced "recommended" supplies are used. OTGH, The long-term and light use of this product in the home is likely to be cost prohibitive.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your feedback. At Brother, customer satisfaction is something we take seriously. The Brother LC203 ink cartridges have a shelf life of three-years from the date of production. Ink cartridges that are opened on, or just before, the use before date should be used and replaced within six months after they are installed. Cartridges are crap
These cartridges are crap. They show empty even though they have plenty of ink left inside. If you take a piece of electrical tape and cover up both sides of the clear ink window, it will trick the printer into thinking that the cartridge is full and you can keep using it. Otherwise you will only use half the ink in the cartridge
1 reply from Brother Customer Service team - 3 years ago
We are sorry that you are experiencing issues with the LC203BK ink cartridges. Please note that the ink that is left in the cartridge after it disappears from the plastic window is extra amount of ink added to each cartridge. This ink is not included in the page yield. The extra ink is to allow for additional automatic cleanings if the cartridge is not replaced right away. This is a safety measure that Brother institutes into the design of the machine to prevent automatic cleanings with 0 ink left in the cartridge. If the machine cleans with 0 ink in the cartridge, it will suck in air and cause the print head to dry up and fail. If you need additional support please note that our Brother Customer Support Team is on stand-by to provide quality products and service to our customers via online, email or live chat: www.brother-usa.com/brother-support

Terrible Product
This ink is a terrible product-does not last and does not produce anywhere near the number of pages it says. Luck to get 50 pages of letter size, plain text (think term paper). Also colored ink is used up even when only printing black and white.

After decades of Brother printers I use Innobella ink because it is the only one to keep the printer going. Yes it is aggravating that the cartridges do not completely empty before replacement but I still like my MFC printer value. Good ink for good machine.

The replies from Brother to all the ink volume issues is canned and totally unhelpful. Why are so many complaining. The product must be defective and labelling misleading. Do you plan on fixing this?
