My shepherd mix has a long memory, especially when it comes to bad experiences. Once, when he was 4-5, I clipped his nail too close and got the quick, and he has never let me forget it. He's now 14. Taking him to the vet is not happening as we have to crocodile hold him for a stranger to touch him (while he's on two different kinds of drugs), and getting him to hold still long enough for me to use the cheap ones I got from Wal-Mart (or somewhere) has been a nearly impossible task. With the quick guard on this to prevent me from going too far, and the easy, strong grip, I managed to trim all of his nails in less than five minutes. These are a straight-up game changer.

Bought these because the dremel tool was not taking off enough length on our longs nails. I gave been very concerned about cutting the quick of their nails and the guard makes all the difference.

I don’t usually leave reviews but was necessary for these. I have a rescue boxer mix and she gets insanely stressed getting her nails done/ going to the vet. So I’ve been trying to do her nails at home. I’ve been filing them for a long time because I’ve been so nervous if I clipped them I would cut them to short and she would never let me do it again. But saw the reviews for these and thought I’d give it a try and let me tell you it took about 2 minutes to do her front paws. These are amazing!! Of course I have to give her some peanut butter on a dish to distract her while I do it but she wasn’t even phased by these! Tips for people just starting to do their dogs nails at home if their dog is terrified of getting their nails done. I would maybe start with a filler just to get them used to the idea of you holding their paws and messing with their nails and if they get nervous to stop and slowly keep back at it and little by little they will be less phased by it. And then once they are comfortable with that then upgrade to these because the filing takes forever and you can get them way shorter with these clippers. Of course peanut butter is involved every time lol and now she gets excited when I ask if she wants her nails done! I hope this helps :)
