About the Book

Hanna's peaceful life is shattered by her past and her husband's lies. The monster in chains unleashed a deadly new stalker. To survive, she must choose between the protector who left and the one who stayed.

Book Synopsis

The ghosts of the past were only the first lie. The truth might destroy everything left.

Dr. Hanna Nowack built a sanctuary on a foundation of sand. For nine years, she protected her daughter, rebuilt her career, and surrounded herself with people she trusted. But every peace hides a secret.

When the façade fractures, Hanna is left standing in the wreckage of betrayal, forced to confront what she thought was buried forever. The monster she faced in chains was only a doorway-one that has opened to a far more personal kind of danger.

Now, a new, insidious threat closes in: a stalker whose obsession with Hanna is deadly and deeply intimate.

To survive, she must navigate a life torn between two protectors: The one who had the courage to leave, and the one who had the strength to stay.

As love and obsession blur, Hanna must become the ruthless survivor she never wanted to be. Because the ghosts she tried to outrun were never gone-they were just waiting for her to turn around.

The lies tore them apart. The truth might destroy them all.

I found Beyond the Truth by Sophia Zane to be a gripping and emotionally intense continuation of The Lies We Whisper, deepening the psychological suspense while expanding its exploration of memory, trauma, and survival. Returning to Dr. Hanna Nowack, at the center of the series, the story builds on established relationships and unresolved wounds as buried secrets and dangerous alliances resurface, raising the emotional and narrative stakes. I was especially drawn to the escalating tension shaped by loyalty and betrayal, particularly in Hanna’s dynamic with FBI agent Steve Riley. As the plot moves from the United States to evocative international settings like Italy and Poland, the sense of danger and dislocation intensifies. One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its chillingly researched portrayal of obsession, notably the antagonist’s erotomania, revealed through disturbing diaries and covert photographs that illuminate the psychology behind predatory behavior. This is not a light read, but it is a powerful, layered continuation that honors survivor voices and will resonate with readers who value psychological depth and morally complex storytelling.
