Barbie Mysteries: Beach Detectives Malibu Doll, Cotton Candy Game Playset & Accessories

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Barbie® Mysteries Beach Detectives set is so much fun for the kids! It has lots of accessories—15 in all. The cotton candy sticks fit perfectly in Barbie’s hands and won’t fall out, which is good. The three rows of carnival tickets (each with its own color) are super flexible and durable; these won’t wear over time or rip. This is a nice set that easily prompts kids to interact and imagine.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The interaction with this toy starts with the unboxing, and it kind of sets the stage for rest of the experience. At first blush the packaging is easy to work with - some stickers holding the cardboard box shut and plastic packing that is easy to remove without getting hurt. But many items in this set - including the Barbie doll - are attached to the cardboard backing with plastic ties. Most annoying, one of the plastic ties is affixed directly into the doll's head. To remove the doll from the packaging you need to cut the tie from the box and then somehow cut the remainder tie out of the doll's head without accidentally cutting its hair. It would be far simpler in the future if simple twist ties were used to affix everything. The Barbie doll is of the usual Barbie doll quality. Nothing has changed here, and we have been pleased with the doll. The outfit and shoes are nice and seem appropriate for the activity the set presents. No brush is included, so you are on your own to handle the hair as it gets messy/tangled/etc. The play set is quick and easy to assemble, aside from some small stickers. Build quality is a bit of a mix. The cart, cotton candy spinner, and drop game are built pretty well. But on the opposite side, the cotton candy pole is pretty flimsy and the tickets are just paper. The tickets are a little strip of paper and the way they fit into the cart requires the whole strip to be present for it to work. You have to play somewhat carefully with them and use them as a whole. If you were to separate a ticket from the strip, it won't work with the set anymore. Similarly, if the tickets get all mangled they may not fit in the slot on the set anymore. The kids have been having fun playing with Barbie and bringing their other dolls to the set. The drop game is neat, and everyone loves to spin the cotton candy spinner, but with extended play they feel it is a bit lacking. Another carnival game, or some other kind of side activity, would have really solidified things and increased replay-ability. As the Barbie Mysteries Beach Detectives series has not yet launched on Netflix, we have no idea how this set ties into the series. Nothing about this set plays to a detective theme at all, so we're hopeful that the set is a reference to an interesting setting on the show. All in all, a middle of the road Barbie set. If the build quality was a little better, and there was another activity to do, we think it would be a much more straightforward hit. This could also end up being a lot of fun for someone who is into the Netflix series, but we just don't know how that part plays out yet.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I gave this to my daughter for her 11th birthday. It was a hit! She absolutely LOVED it! It was the first present she played with. The cotton candy maker was so neat and she loved making cotton candy. She also loved the game and how you could win different prizes. There were so many fun details like the popcorn and the different colored tickets. Brought more dolls down to “play” the game. Kept her and her cousin playing for a couple hours on the first day alone.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This beach Barbie set is a fun addition to my daughter’s collection. The cotton candy machine is cute, and the tickets are fun. The coin drop game is fine. There are about 6 stickers you have to put on the set, but they are easy enough. It is kind of large so it does take up a lot of space. The Barbie is nice.

The colorful tickets were definitely a hit. I do wish more than one of each color came with the set. I also wish the popcorn was able to click into the table top like the drink is able to. The set is definitely kid friendly with it's vibrant colors and easy to use pieces.

This playset is nostalgic for anyone young or old who has been to a summer carnival or fair that has enjoyed the games, won some prizes, and snacked on some treats like cotton candy. The Barbie doll itself is pretty generic or standard to a lot of Barbie playsets. She has long, straight blonde hair, a cute light blue dress with heart print, and white sneakers. The real draw of this product is the playset and accessories, Mattel really went above and beyond with the details of this one! The game booth is adorable and comes with tickets and stuffed animal prizes. It also comes with treats like cotton candy (and a cotton candy machine), popcorn, and a drink. The whole set is very bright, colorful, and gives off a very fun and summery vibe. This is a great set for kids or adult collectors, but because of all the small parts I would recommend caution and not giving it to small children.

She likes to pick different sections that are the winning spots for the Barbie to get the prize below each spot. She also has a lot of fun playing with the cotton candy serving her customers! And she thinks the tickets are so much fun to pretend with. This is a must have play set for Barbie lovers.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] we had the opportunity to play with the games and prizes stand for Barbie, the main stand is a great size and interactive you can really play with the stand to win prizes, they have cotton candy that look real and turn over so you have the feeling that you are creating real cotton candy, each piece has a specific place, like coins, tickets and cotton candy which allows you to have everything more organized, the tickets are made of cardboard and that makes them break easier, placing the stickers makes us feel like we are collaborating with Matel to create our Barbie, Barbie can easily hold the prizes and items that come in the box with her hands, the only thing we miss are the extra movements that some Barbies have, my daughters of 4 and 7 years old spend very fun days with this Barbie set, we are already excited waiting for the Netflix movie.

The cotton candy spins to appear like it’s being made and then can be displayed. The coins that drop in the game and then the tickets that dispense and prizes to choose are great for imaginative play. My daughter loves to pretend parties and carnivals so this was a wonderful addition. I highly recommend this playset.

Being able to actually swirl the cotton candy machine around is likely one of their favorite features. Very easy to unpackaged, and put together. I do wish the tickets were rubber or something that wouldn't break, because the little cardboard tickets for the arcade game have already been shredded 🤣

I love the little tickets that can be pushed Thur a slot to play a game and the little coins and the gifts that be won are adorable. Granddaughter says "she has been waiting so long to play with this awesome toy🥰" the cotton candy and machine is really cool! Very easy assembly also. Overall very awesome toy.

The design and feature are very cool and impressive for a small play set. The tickets and prizes sections are a nice feature and bring authenticity to the set. She likes the prize game feature of the coin drop. Her two critiques of the set are that the Barbie that comes with the set doesn’t have a matching outfit or something that matches the game cart. Her second critique is where the prizes are placed on the play set as a real carnival game would have prizes in the back.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Treats and Game Booth is an amazing set. So many accessories like cotton candy, a game board with game tickets, and prizes. It’s very life like, the cotton candy comes from the bin it’s “made” in. There are some small pieces.

It's so cute and it was a perfect rainy day activity for them. I love how all of the Barbies can be used with all the different playsets as it doesn't stop them from grabbing multiple dolls to play.

My 3 & 7yo were selling cotton candy and playing plinko for hours! My 7yo is disappointed that the drink cup doesn't stay in the hole but that's not stopping the fun.
