Description
About the Book
Nearly two hundred thousand scholarly books and monographs have been published about the French Revolution and the Napoleonic era during the last two hundred years. The approaching bicentennial of these events will undoubtedly result in an extensive reexamination of this period. This work, designed as a companion volume to Owen Connelly's Historical Dictionary of Napoleonic France, 1799-1815 (Greenwood Press, 1985), expands Connelly's work to include most of the generally available books published since 1945. The book is designed to direct researchers to the materials which are best suited for their inquiry and which might otherwise be overlooked. In this way it serves as a useful research tool, providing a summary of all that is currently available.

Review Quotes
?Meyer, a historian of US regional and European history, has compiled a bibliography on the Napoleonic era, a topic closely related to his master's thesis and dissertation.... The 1,754 monographic entries, mainly in English and Western European languages with some Slavic language entries, are accessible by braod categories (e.g., research aids, printed primary sources, France and the world, Napoleon's family) and by an author/editor index. The books included range from scholarly to popular. Although the title of this book indicates annotations, they are not critical or scholarly but merely indicate content and physical description of the item. Meyer provides us with a valuable current source for history in the early 19th century. Recommended for college, university, and large public libraries.?-Choice
