Q: I've put the batteries in and nothing happens. It doesn't light up and I can't find any on/off switch on the bottom. The light test button on the pumpkin worked, so the light was working.
A: took me a minute to figure out but on the bottom right of the battery box there was a clear silicone covering on the small on and off switch

Q: Is the silicon piece that covers the switch supposed to come off?
A: I don’t think so, I tried pulling it off but it’s not that easy, you can still use the switch with the cover.

Q: Would this be okay outside on a porch?
A: Yes. The other answer is incorrect. These say right on the tag indoor or sheltered out door. If you are looking to have an adorable bright little pumpkin for outside where it won't get wet, these are perfect!!!! Love this little guy!!!
