6pk Soft Twist Taper Candles Brown - Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia

So much for using these with an actual flame! Unfortunately, I bought three boxes.

I FIGURED IT OUT. Initially, I was just as frustrated with these candles as the rest of the reviewers were. After going to bed regretting my purchase, I woke up and figured I’d give it the old college try. Here’s what I learned: 1. The Wick - The wick on this candle is different than most (as you might have noticed). It’s a flat cotton braided wick and it’s on the softer side of stiffness than your mainstream jar candles and tealight candles have. So it seemed to burn so fast and then hit the wax and burnt out (with a typical lighter and a torch lighter). To fix this, you need to help the candle start melting. So I melted the top of the candle and it burns like a dream. Longer wick = taller flame. Shorter wick = smaller flame. 2. Standard Lighter - don’t bother. To get the candle lit and burning nicely, you need to melt the top of the candle a bit and a standard lighter is just too… soft. You’ll spend more time and energy trying to get the top melted (and it will honestly look like a less “refined” drip down the candlestick) and feel like the “juice wasn’t worth the squeeze” of this product. 3. Torch Lighter - YES. It was easy to melt the top 1-2cm of the candle (as I lit the wick itself, which didn’t burn off and crumble into ash in the wax upon lighting). 4. The Melt - I mean… it’s cute and all but… it’s still a candle. So yes, the design is great but you will still experience minimal to moderate dripping (minimal during the regular burn life and moderate during the time you’re using the torch lighter to melt the first 1-2cm). 5. Smoke - After blowing out the candle, the smoke was actually a pretty looking ribbon that disappeared super quick (less than approx 30-45 seconds). 6. Burn Time - I burn it at my bedside while I read my book before bed (which is usually about 1-1.5 hours while I wind down, pet my dog, talk to my husband, and read) for two nights so far and it’s still pretty much at full height (photo included and I accounted for the amount of the candle that’s lifted in the candle holder). I get it. At first, it’s annoying. But it’s worth it. I’m curious to see how starting the flame on this candle would work when using the Hearth & Hand electric lighter that they sell. I might make a follow up post. Lol. 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to put on a Sherlock Holmes hat and glasses to give the people a whole investigational piece of literature in the Target reviews section.

They look nice but only half of them light. There are three that the wicks burn up and not the wax.

Bought these for our Thanksgiving table. Only one of the six would stay lit. Wick burned down and dissolved. Very disappointing

Looked great on Thanksgiving table. Two boxes spread the length of four long tables. UNTIL we tried to light them. Some did not burn at all, the wick burned down and vanished, the ones that finally did burn dripped a lot of wax and quickly made a mess on the table cloths. They did not burn evenly at all. Unless you just want to look at them, I would save my money and pass on these.

They don’t stay lit. So disappointed.

These candles do not light, will be returing

Ok yes they don’t light but just dip the wick in olive oil or any oil and they will light up and stay lit. Beautiful candles!

these are AWFUL. first they do not light. the wick burns up immediately and doesn’t stay lit. had to carve out some of the wax and light no less than 17 times. and then they drip insanely.

Such a waste of money. They don’t even stay lit. I bought in store so unfortunately I didn’t see the reviews.

The candles do not light easily. The string is not a quality wick and I saw embers floating up. I’ve never seen a candle produce embers. I immediately extinguished the flame. I do not recommend these candles.

These do not light. Very very cute color and looked great in their holder, HOWEVER! However, the wick does not have wax on them so they do not stay lit, or well, light at all. I burned all 6 of them to make sure. The wick just kind of burned away and then that was it. Big sad! Was able to get a refund, which was nice so thank you Target!

Don’t light

These are definitely purely decorative. The wick can’t be lit. Very disappointing.

As everyone else says....they DON'T stay lit. If you're just using them for decorative purposes, great. Otherwise, total waste of $$

The candle doesn’t actually light. Look cute but the wick isn’t real.

I bought a copper candelabra, also from Target and these candles fit nicely and look modern and a little artsy because of the texture.

Great design for a great price!
