Cute but annoying
This dog crate was incredibly annoying to put together. I have put together all kinds of furniture pieces before, and never have been as frustrated as I was with this one. If you are patient and creative, you can definitely make it work. The back panel and the drawer panels that were supposed to “slide into place” but had to be aggressively forced into place. They were way too big for the slots. I used a hammer to gently tap them in but it was taking forever and driving me crazy, so my husband took over for those parts. The bottom silver track that the door slides on, was warped and sticking up. My husband helped me screw in a small screw to hold down the end. It pierced through the bottom so we used a small furniture sticker pad underneath to make sure it didn’t scratch our floor. The sliding door is confusing. It doesn’t work unless the screws are only partially screwed in and can easily be knocked off the track. The drawers were particulaly frustrating. The screw placements in the instructions, kept the drawers from going in all the way in so I moved them to the furthest holes. I am not sure why there are such large gaps behind the drawers but oh well.. might make a good place to hide a toy when my dog needs a break from it. It took me a few days to fully finish this peice. Definitely plan for it to take quite awhile and plan for some serious improvising. Now that it is finally assembled, I am happy with the way it looks. The drawers are still very tight and hard to open and close. I am hoping that will get better with time. The door does not slide smoothly and one of the screws on the back is cutting a line into the panel behind it. I do think the door lock will work well and I like the hooks on the side for our dog’s leash and other items. It seems sturdy and I hope it will hold up well.
